John Flowers (Flat & Industrial) Roofing Ltd was appointed by South Tyneside Council to deliver essential roofing works at the historic Jarrow Hall Museum, with the project running from November 2024 to April 2025.

The works involved the removal of the existing single-ply membrane and Scottish river wash pebble ballast, followed by the installation of a three-layer bitumen built-up felt system in line with the SIG Accuroof specification. This high-permeability system, installed with tapered insulation, enhances drainage to newly installed external parapet outlets.

Covering approximately 1,400m², this was a critical refurbishment project addressing extensive water ingress. All works were carried out while the museum remained live and operational, with additional precautions taken to safeguard on-site farm animals and protect the building’s valuable historical artefacts.

We are proud to have played a role in preserving such an important heritage site for future generations.
